Root and Rise Recap: Wilderness Wanderers
- Courtney Ashworth
A quick moment for our November Unit Study Recap
This month our learners strapped on their hiking boots and stepped into the role of Wilderness Wanderers, exploring the wildlife of Florida’s forests and swamps, practicing trail safety and etiquette, and finishing it all off with a joyful Field Day on the land.
A huge thank-you to Erin, our resident backpacking trail queen, who led this entire unit with so much knowledge, enthusiasm, and heart. From animal tracks to trail signals, she brought every lesson to life—but the kids’ absolute favorite moment? When she bravely drank the green pond water to demonstrate how water filtration devices work! (They are still talking about it!)
Other fun highlights included:
Braving our first freezing cold day together (shout out to Kelly for building a fire for us, that felt so on-theme!)
Me dressing as a bear in an attempt to scare our kiddos in the woods (they were unamused, but the moms all got a kick out of it!)
Our first ever field day where Mrs. Erin set up challenges for the kiddos to work through together in teams - slow and steady, and sticking together
Our Friendsgiving, camping themed shared meal
Partnering with a local church to serve in handing out food to families in need
We’re grateful for another month of learning, laughing, and exploring together outdoors!
